Led by house conservatives, the anti LGBTQ legislation if passed, would make same sex marriages illegal in the state of North Carolina.
The state of North Carolina has recognized same sex marriages since October of 2014, when a U.S. District Court judge ruled in favor of same sex marriages, citing that banning same-sex marriages would be unconstitutional. Republican State legislators tried to defend the ban and stop North Carolina from allowing same-sex marriages, but were not successful.
According to TIME and we quote…
“The bill’s main sponsors are Reps. Larry Pittman, Michael Speciale, and Carl Ford, who in the filed bill cite a 61% affirmative vote for Article 14, Section 6 of the state’s constitution that voided same-sex marriage and civil unions in 2012″.
However, seems it would be very difficult to pass House Bill 780 (HB780), also known as the “Uphold Historical Marriage Act”.
Seems as if Tennessee may be lining up behind North Carolina, in looking to abolish same-same sex marriages as well, when they tried to pull the same thing last month!
But they had a couple of law suits going and agreed to wait until next year to revisit it.
Here at Urban Bride Chic, we believe that when we start treating our fellow men & women with respect and equality, the world will be a better place for all!
